Located in the german state of Sachsen is the city Leipzig, which is known to be the center of commerce, education and economy in central Germany, but is also noticed for its many art and cultural sights. With over 530.000 citizens and a space of more than 300 km² Leipzig is the biggest town in the state Sachsen. The lord major of the town is Burkhard Jung and he is responsible for the 10 departments and 63 neighborhoods in Leipzig. There is also a big green side to the town which shows in the Auwaldgebiet and also anywhere near the rivers who flow through the town like the Weiße Elster, Pleiße or Parthe.
The first university of Leipzig was built in 1409 and is the oldest university in Germany. First signs of settlements in Leipzig go back all the way to the Young Stone Age and Leipzig was first mentioned in a chronicle dated back to the year 1015 AD. Many historic buildings can be found in Leipzig, like the St. Nikolai Church, which was built in 1165.
